Spirit World
~ This world is independent from our "material" world. Both worlds interact all the time but are independent from each other. Through medium ship, these worlds can communicate with each other.
~ Some Spiritualism philosophies affirm that we are, first and foremost, spiritual beings temporarily living in the physical realm with a purpose.
~ The shared belief is that the human consciousness, or soul, continues to exist beyond the physical body.
~ Some even believe life is defined as a continuous learning experience, governed by a curriculum that calls for periods in the physical realm until such time that we have learned enough lessons to graduate to a spiritual existence in the spirit world. Given this perspective, Spiritualism sustains the notion of a spiritual evolution, that supports the idea that the elements of the physical and spiritual realm are interconnected and continuously evolving.
~ Some spiritualists use intentionally induced altered states of consciousness, to investigate his or her mind, and possibly address spiritual questions, through direct experience. Most are willing to explore mystical traditions from established world religions with meditation lucid dreams, technologies and psychedelic or lethal drugs. Because techniques that alter consciousness can be dangerous, and can induce a state of extreme susceptibility, Spiritualists of this sort generally prefer to undertake these explorations either alone, or in the company of people they trust. Therefore, they are averse to using altered consciousness in a social or "party" context. They generally regard the latter sort of use as irresponsible and dangerous.
